About the Editing Process:
General
I believe that improving writing also improves thinking. The editing process should allow you both to hone your ideas and communicate them more effectively. For this reason, I like to make sure I have fully understood your project before I begin working on it.
In general, I will complete a read-through of your work and then arrange to meet with you on Zoom to talk about your goals for the piece and to give you my thoughts on what it needs. We then work together to come up with an editing plan and to establish a timeline. For structural/copy editing I will generally complete the editing process and then send you a finalized version. For developmental projects I may ask to meet with you several times throughout the process so that we can be sure we are on the same page. All developmental/structural editing includes basic copy-editing.
Timeline
When we first correspond, we will establish a date when you will send me a first draft. I will give you an estimated date of completion which I commit to keeping with a day or two of leeway for unexpected delays.
The writing process is unpredictable and I understand that many writers will need more time than they originally anticipate. If you turn in your draft after the date agreed upon, I will do my best to work on it swiftly but cannot guarantee it will be finished by the original estimated date.
Contact me for pricing. Please note: each month I take on a few editing/translation projects on a sliding scale, especially for graduate students and scholars outside of the United States. Please contact me if you fit into one of these categories and I will do my best to work with you.
About the Translation Process:
General
Translation involves a complex balancing act between making a text readable and honoring your voice and intention as an author. As with editing, I generally prefer to meet in person briefly so that we can discuss your desires for the piece of writing and your preferences for its translation. I will complete an initial read-through of your work beforehand.
I do various types of translation which include (and are not limited to): translations of texts fully written in Spanish, French or Portuguese, “clean-up” work on texts that authors themselves have partially or fully translated into English and translation of portions of texts (generally citations).
